A man convicted of fatally shooting another man at a house party in Denver last autumn was sentenced Friday to 48 years in prison.
Salvador Vargas, 33, was convicted in June, after a four-day trial, of second-degree murder, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
In the early morning hours of Nov. 27, 2016, Vargas fatally shot 54-year-old Rufino Perez at a house party in the 5500 block of Carson Street.
Vargas had been shot, and slightly wounded at the same party in an initial confrontation, the DA’s office said in a news release. Vargas wife, who was at the party, took a gun away from him and put it in her purse. Vargas later on took the gun from his wife’s purse and shot Perez several times in retaliation.
Vargas was also ordered to pay $13,010 in restitution.
