Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe carted off practice field with apparent right leg injury

Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe was carted off the practice field at the team’s Dove Valley headquarters Saturday morning with an apparent right leg injury.

Wolfe appeared to suffer the injury during an 11-on-11 play early in practice. Offensive tackle Menelik Watson was walking gingerly after the play, but he returned to action.

Wolfe appeared unable to put any pressure on his right leg as he was helped by trainers from the cart into the team’s facility.

The Broncos have already had their defensive line depth tested in training camp. Nose tackle Billy Winn suffered a season-ending ACL tear Thursday in the team’s preseason opener against the Bears.

There have been other injuries on the defense the past couple months, as well. Outside linebackers Shane Ray (wrist) and Shaquil Barrett (hip) aren’t expected back until the start of the regular season or later. Nose tackle Kyle Peko (foot) is yet to return from the physically unable to perform list. Safety T.J. Ward has missed the last week with a hamstring injury. Inside linebacker Todd Davis missed about a week with a shoulder strain, but he returned to practice Saturday.

This story will be updated.
